Creeping and crawling were out: Hammer-down philosophy was alive and well at the 40th annual Tierra del Sol Desert Safari. Much of the marked trail was a little steeper, a little tighter, and a little looser than in previous years. Most of the terrain is barren and covered with trails and almost looked like a giant anthill covered in scampering Jeeps. There seemed to also be more participation in after-hours action that included crazy hillclimbs with everyone trying to show each other up with a faster, cleaner climb. Here's some of the action we caught at this year's event. For information on participating in next year's, go to the Tierra del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club of San Diego's Web site www.tds4x4.com. But you better build for it, we're betting on some even tougher trail action.
